Elmwood Presbyterian Church

Elmwood Presbyterian Church is a local church based in Ballymacash, Lisburn with a membership of around 450. Before contacting SMK Creations, Elmwood ran a site that was starting to look quite dated and failed to address the communication needs of the church.

Aims/Objectives

The overall aim was to project Elmwood as a group of ordinary, friendly, God-loving people “who meet together to worship an extraordinary God”, to share His love in the community, providing activities to engage all ages.
They considered style, and decided they would like a contemporary “feel” to the site.
Elmwood considered specific objectives for their new website. For example, was it to communicate with:

  • Members of the church(and/or specific groups)
  • Younger members(as they interact with the web in a different way from adults)
  • The local community
  • Christians looking for a local church

They decided they wanted a website that:

  • provided background information for new members
  • provided existing members with up to date information
  • the option to listen to the latest sermons.

Elmwood also wanted to be able to reach out into the community, particularly as in recent years there are has been an increase in residential development in the area.

Challenges

The big challenge was to create a website that could be used as a resource to existing members but also that would encourage newcomers to the area to come along and find out more. It needed to be easy to maintain, and easily found in an internet search.

Result

Having taken into consideration the aims and objectives set out by Elmwood for the website, SMK Creations have been able to create an aesthetically pleasing, functional website that caters both for existing members of the church and newcomers.

A Content Management System has also been incorporated to allow Elmwood Presbyterian Church to easily edit the content and upload new sermons and weekly announcement bulletins.

The website also incorporates Google Analytics which allows Elmwood to track how many visits the website gains each month and to find out how people are finding the church online.
